The makers of state Capitol in Rhodes Island realized that mere imitation of the forms of other state capitol will be artless imitation. They wanted to show that Rhodes island was different from other states in every respect. The fact that Rhodes island is a fiercely independent state has been established
by the architectural pattern of the State Capitol of Rhodes Island.
There are several murals inside the dome of State capitol of Rhodes Island. Inside the dome of Rhodes island there is a mural painted by Giorgio DeFelice. The mural is depicting many things of Rhodes Island-literature, commerce, justice and education. Another mural of the dome is the depiction of
colonization of Providence Plantation by Rogger Williams. At the crest of the dome there is a bronze statue of “Independent man”. The statue symbolizes the spirit and freedom of the colony granted by
King Charles II. According to Royal Charter of 1663 Rhodes Island was declared as a place of tolerance. This document was in use as a the constitution of state until 1843. The royal charter has been kept in original in the senate chamber.
