The Smith Appleby House was initially a one-room house with a loft above. The size of the room later doubled. At present the house has twelve rooms. The rooms are with varied stunning designs and original stencils.
The Smith Appleby House Museum is one of the national historic places of Rhode Island. John Smith got forty acres of land from Roger William and this land increased to more than 700 acres at the time of Elisha Smith. The area occupied by the Smith Appleby House has decreased to only 7 acres now. The owner of this land is Historical Society of Smithfield.
The Smith Appleby House had farmlands, woodlands and orchards in the area covered. Now, you can get to see a gristmill, a sawmill and a blacksmith shop in that area.
Smith Appleby House has been restored beautifully. This great farmhouse of Rhode Island features wonderful collection of cabinetwork and a fascinating collection of the antiques.
