Colt and after his death the Park was purchased by the State of Rhode Island and from the 21st of August, 1968,the land was dedicated as Colt State Park and made open to all visitors.

Fees for entering the Colt State Park: No entrance fees are charged to the visitors from 1st July, 1998 although parking fees and all the fees for Picnic and other uses still apply.
You are required to reserve ceremonial Area and Fireplace Sites in Colt State Park . The rentals for the various places are:
Gazebo (Picnic Tables & two Grills) - $ 35.00/day
Fireplace Sites - $ 4.00 to $ 30.00/day
Commercial Area - $ 15.00 for 3 hours.
