North Gate was originally built as a toll-gate house. It was constructed in the year 1807. Initially this was the toll-gate house for Louisquisset Turnpike Co. In the mid 1800’s this Rhode Island toll-gate house became a hotel. This changes over made a lot of additions to the toll-house. The North Gate houses a library and a museum. The North Gate library houses a lot of historical documents which are relevant to the Blackstone Valley. Moreover, the North Gate contains a concert hall and a stage, which bears a unique illustrated curtain.
The North Gate library and museums are decorated with wonderful furniture, which belongs to the early 18th century. The Exhibit Hall of North Gate houses a fascinating display of items on the limestone industry, the Grange and Lime Rock Fire Dept.
Arnold's Lonsdale Bakery Building is situated just adjacent to the Exhibit Hall of the North Gate and has been reconstructed.
The North Gate at Rhode Island is open for special events and by appointment only.
