Federal Hill is an important neighborhood of Providence the capital city of Rhodes Island. The central location of this place within the city is responsible for its salient role in the history of Providence. This
place is encircled by Interstate 95 highway to the east, Route 6 and Route 10 to the west and north. The
Westminster Street is on the south of this building. The neighboring areas of this building include South Providence and West End on the south, Smith Hill and Valley to the north and Downtown area to the east.

The area of Federal Hills has a long history. Amos Maine Atwells was a famous businessman of the area was the leader of a business syndicate which was responsible for the development of the western areas of the city in 1788. In the first two decades of the last century this part of the city witnessed a massive Italian-American immigration.
Slowly this place came to be known as Little Italy.
At present the area has become more cosmopolitan in nature but still some basic traits of Italian-American community is still visible in this area. A park named after the famous leader of Italy Garibaldi lies in this area. A monumental bust of Giuseppe Garibaldi lies within this half acre square
park.

47% of the population in Federal Hills are people of European origin and 14.8% are African-American.
32.1% of the population is Hispanic. Nearly half of the public school students speak another language
other than English as their primary language.

Administration in Federal Hill: Nearly the entire part of Federal Hill falls within the ward 13 of the
Providence City Council. A very little part of this area comes within the ward 15 of the city council.
