Rhode Island is the smallest state in the New England region of Northeastern part of United States of America and is a major tourist destination. Large number of international tourists visit Rhode Island every year because there is so much to see and learn from there. Though small in size, it is a very clean and well-planned state, thanks to the Rhode Island Government.

Rhode Island Government has played a very important role in the industrial and economical development of the state. Rhode Island General Assembly is the state legislature and you would get to see the Assembly House in Providence, the capital of the state. At present the top most persons of Rhode Island Government is Governor Donald L. Carcieri, and United States Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse. Patrick J. Kennedy and Jim Langevin are the two Congressmen.

Speaking about Rhode Island Government we need to mention about the Rhode Island General Assembly. The state legislature consists of two houses, the House of Representatives and House of Senate. There are 75 members in the House of Representatives and 38 members in the House of Senate and at present the Democratic Party is dominating both the houses. Rhode Island Government is also one of those 12 state governments that abolished capital punishment.

The history of Rhode Island is also very interesting. Rhode Island is one of those six states that voted against Ronald Reagan in the year 1980. In the next Presidential election in 1984, Rhode Island provided the 3rd best performance to Walter Mandale. Even in the year 2004, Rhode Island casted more than 20 percentage of total vote to John Kerry. Rhode Island Government takes a good care for its citizens and provides all kind of facilities to them. It has also taken a good care for the preservation of historical monuments and other spots that are visited by large number of people.
