About Rhode Island

While speaking about Rhode Island, we first need to talk about New england region. Situated in the Northeastern part of United States of America, New england is one of the most beautiful region and is a very popular tourist destination. There are certain interesting things that you would like to know about Rhode Island. The most unique feature of Rhode Island is that it is the smallest state in the Northeastern part of the country with the largest official name- the State of Rhode Island and Province Plantations. Province Plantations is the name of the mainland of Rhode Island, which in itself was known as the Aquidneck Island in the 17th and 18th century. Today Aquidneck Island comprises the towns of Portsmouth and Middletown and then city of Newport. If you are thinking that just like other islands, Rhode Island is also piece of land floating on water you are wrong because unlike its name most of the state lies on the North American mainland. Vast areas of greeneries, wonderful valleys, mountains and rivers are some of the most important things that attract people to know about Rhode Island.



Another important thing that we need to mention about Rhode Island is that it the first of the 13 American colonies that declared independence from the Britishers and indicated the start of American revolution. There are several historic sites in Rhode Island that speaks about the struggle of its people to earn freedom from British rule and the numerous historical specimens would take you back the days of American revolution.
